Corporate Governance Engagement Initiative

The State Board of Administration of Florida's Corporate Governance Engagement Initiative is a stewardship program designed to promote long-term shareowner value through constructive engagement with portfolio companies. As a fiduciary for the Florida Retirement System, the SBA's governance activities are guided exclusively by pecuniary factors that may affect investment risk and return.

The Engagement Initiative combines financial performance analysis with governance assessments to identify companies that may warrant increased monitoring, engagement, or escalation. Areas of focus may include board accountability, executive compensation, leadership structure, shareowner rights, and other governance practices that have a demonstrated relationship to long-term company performance.

Our approach is intended to be transparent, objective, and evidence-based. We seek constructive dialogue with companies and evaluate governance matters through the lens of their potential impact on long-term enterprise value and shareowner outcomes.
